Dont Like Facebook New Chat sidebar & Recover Old Chat - Guide

disable facebook chat sidebarSometimes changes in the layout of Facebook often gets a thumbs down by the users. Just like how much people hated the new Facebook layout with photo streams above, similarly do people found the new social chat window appearing on the right sidebar as equal irritation. In order to disable this chat sidebar that shows photo thumbnails of friends available for chat and recover the older chat view then lets play with some workarounds.

new facebook chat sidebar

Facebook Chat Sidebar Disabler:

Troubleshoot a Disconnected Internet Connection

Internet TroubleshootIf your Internet connection is down due to disconnection and you don’t know the reason for its cause, you would be approaching your ISP provider. Normally in India ISP providers have set up customer care so that they would help in any query related to your connection. So when your internet is down, the customer care executive would be suggesting you to go with the basic internet troubleshooting. This troubleshooting is to ensure that the problem is not in and around you. It goes with configuring your router and your internet connection settings.
Follow the steps mentioned below -
  1. Unplug the power cable which is connected to the modem and OFF it for 10 seconds.

  2. Connect the power cable to the router.

  3. Connect a single PC to one of the LAN ports of the router.

  4. Now restart your computer.

  5. Now restore the router to factory default settings and it will remove all previously configured settings.

  6. Once the router is restored it will reboot by itself.

Now the next steps is to confirm whether you are receiving the incoming signals or not. You can check IP address by following the procedure mentioned below and easily know whether you are receiving the incoming signals or not –
  1. For all the operating system of Windows including Windows XP, Windows Vista and Windows 7, you need to go to run command (Windows button + R in windows 7) and cmd.

  2. Now in DOS window type ipconfig and then press Enter on your keyboard.Internet Troublshoot

  3. This would give you complete details on the IP address, gateway address and subnet mask address.

The IP address that you see here would be near identical to that of you have for your router configuration except the end digit. For different router that you have you would get the following sets of IP address -
  • For 3Com Router IP would be 192.168.1.x

  • D-Link Router, IP would be 192.168.0.x

  • Linksys Router, IP would be 192.168.1.x

  • Microsoft Broadband Router, IP would be 192.168.2.x

  • Netgear Router, IP would be 192.168.0.x

  • Actiontec Router, IP would be 192.168.0.x

  • Where x is a number assigned to the PC

Ex – I have D-Link Router and so I got the IP 192.168.0.124 which is depicted in the screenshot above.
Now when this is done, you can make a note of your IP address and check whether you are receiving the incoming signals from your router or the ISP provider. This is called as Pinging your ISP and it can be easily done by following the steps mentioned below –
  1. Click on start and type your IP after writing Ping. Like in my case it would be ping 192.168.0.124 -t and then press enter. So in general it would be ping IPAddress -t.Ping an IP

  2. This would open Ping command and with the TCP/IP connectivity results and it looks something like this -Internet Troublshoot

If you get the above reply present in the message then your incoming signal is working fine but the problem would be in your PC or modem. If it shows ‘Local Area Connection not found’ then its the problem of internet service provider and you need to contact your provider.

Basic Tips to Increase Your Website Visibility

There are hundreds of ways out there on how to improve the visibility of your websites or blogs, and at times that information can drive you out of your focus on your Search Engine Optimization campaign. To prevent what we usually call as “information overload”, I have set up a brief 10 to-do list.
Do the actions listed below for a consistent three months and see the results for your websites or blogs:
  1. Constantly update your content: if you want more traffic, you have to continuously update your content. People will not visit your websites if they do not have good and high quality content. Without a constant update, there will not be any returning visitors as well.
  2. Apply good design and layout: if your website is messy on its designs and navigations then visitors will leave at the very moment they arrive on your website. Make sure you apply good design, content-focused with proper color schemes.
  3. Use your own domain name: using a professional looking top level domain name will make you look more professional and will then make visitors to trust you more as a serious business entity. The cost of a domain name is as little as US$8 per year and it can make a serious difference than having a free domain
  4. Use StumbleUpon: I have had a lot of success using StumbleUpon for my websites, especially those specifically talk about a specific niche, such as soccer. When you put an interesting article from your website on StumbleUpon, then people will rate it higher and in turn make the article more popular. Remember to also make friends and connections in StumbleUpon to increase your personal popularity and credibility on the website.
  5. Become a guest poster: offer your unique writings and articles to other people’s blogs. People love to get free and high quality blog content. In your article, make sure you put a link back to your website. Again, make sure that the article you submit as a guest blogger is unique and cannot be found on any other blogs.
  6. Put keywords on images: if you use images on your blog posts, then it is crucial for you to give them relevant title and tag them with relevant keywords. In my soccer website, a large portion of my visitors come from people looking for soccer wallpaper from Google’s image search.
  7. Comments, comments and comments: when you give comments, people will know that you give notice, and they will appreciate that. However, please do not spam. Some people just love to put comments such as “Hi, nice blog, how about visiting mine?”. Those kind of comments will be removed without question and you will only offend your blogger peers.
  8. Use MyBlogLog: sign up to MyBlogLog and join to all the communities available there and you will see visitors start coming from MyBlogLog.
  9. Do not waste your time: don’t waste your time with “get rich quick scheme” promises. Concentrate on giving quality content, then the traffic and the money will come.
  10. Most important, always review your stats: by reviewing your sites’ statistics using Google Analytical tool, you will find out what kind of keywords that your visitors use to come across your site and which articles that are the most appealing for them. The results of your review can then be used for more effective and efficient future campaigns.

Use Your Mobile Phone As a Modem And Us Internet On PC

Connect your PC to the Internet. Of course, not everyone can afford Huawei, ZTE or other USB internet modems. But do not worry because you are not alone. That your mobile phone can still function as an internet modem. So if you want to connect your mobile phone (GPRS-enabled) to your desktop or laptop in other to browse the internet, read on because I will be sharing with you, simple ways you can use to connect your PC to the internet using your phone as a modem.
For the purpose of this tutorial, I will be using Nokia 6630 as a case-study. So every settings and configurations I will be talking about will base on Nokia 6630. The following settings and configurations will also be applicable to other phone makes and models. Just follow the same path and you will be done.
Basic Requirements:
1. A GPRS-enabled mobile phone
2. A GSM SIM card
3. A PC (either laptop or desktop computer)
4. A cord, cable, bluetooth or infra red
5. A PC Suite (software).
How to Connect Your Phone to Your PC
Like I said earlier, to connect your PC to the Internet without a LAN or WAN, you will need a GPRS-enabled cell phone with a modem functionality. Then, follow the steps below to get started:
1. First, we will get a Nokia PC Suite for our case-study (Nokia 6630). If you do not use a Nokia phone, you can easily get your phone’s PC Suite from the Compact Disk that comes with your phone or simply download it from the internet. For Nokia PC Suite, click here to download the latest and recommended PC Suite for your Nokia phone model.
2. After downloading, install the PC Suite following the installation wizard instructions.
3. While installing, you will get to a stage where you will have to connect your phone to the PC, you can do so either by using a USB Cord, Connectivity Cable, Bluetooth or Infra Red, depending on the one available to you and/or your choice.
That is all about installation of Nokia PC Suite and connecting with your phone. Once the installation is successful, your phone should be connected to your PC and you should be able to confirm that on the PC Suite interface and on the Task bar. Note that this does not mean you have been connected to the internet.
How to Connect Your PC to the Internet
Now that your phone has been connected to your computer using the PC Suite, the modem functionality of the phone must have been installed altogether. Then let us proceed to get connected to the internet.
First thing first, you should do some basic set up on your mobile phone.
- Go to ‘Settings’ on your phone
- Go to ‘Connection’
- Then select ‘Packet Data’
- Select ‘APN’
- Enter the APN value for your network
For MTN, APN is: web.gprs.mtnnigeria.net, Etisalat is: etisalat, Globacom is: gloflat and Airtel is: internet.ng.airtel.com.
Then on your Nokia PC Suite, double click to open it and follow this set up to connect to the internet:
1. Launch ‘Nokia PC Suite’ (you can find the shortcut icon on your PC’s desktop)
2. Click ‘Connect to the Internet’
3. One Touch will pop-up, click ‘Settings’
4. Select the phone type and click ‘Next’
5. Choose either ‘Automatic Configuration’ or ‘Manual Configuration’. In ‘Automatic Configuration’, select ‘MTN Nigeria’ and click ‘Next’, then OK. But if you chose ‘Manual Configuration’, click ‘Next’. In the next window, enter the following info (based on MTN settings):
- APN: web.gprs.mtnnigeria.net
- Username: web
- Password: web
- Initialization Command: leave blank
- Click OK or Finish
NOTE
If you use other network apart from MTN, you should replace the above with your network’s internet settings.
6. Then click ‘Connect’.
At this point, ‘One Touch’ will try to connect your PC to the internet. If this is successful, ‘One Touch’ will be minimized automatically. Do not close it so as to remain connected. You are now connected. You can now begin to browse using your favorite web browser.
Note that if you do not subscribe to any data bundle or package, you will not be able to browse. And if you have credit on your phone, and you try to browse with your phone, your credit will be exhausted within a blink of an eye. You can however get a browsing package or plan for any network, for as low as N1,000 per month for a data usage of about 100MB to 200MB, depending on the network.

Tips to Disable Right Click On Your Blog

Are you worried because you think your blog content is being copied without your permission? I wrote a post in the past on how to fight content thieves but I didn't mention disabling right click because I never saw it as a good idea. A visitor might want to copy your tutorial to a notepad for reference purpose but disabling right-click on your blog makes this impossible. This can actually make you lose visitors. The simple truth is that only a very few percentage of your visitors want to copy your content for the purpose of using it on their own blog.

Also, disabling right click on your blog just to protect your content looks rather unprofessional to me. I won't advice you to do this because I, personally can't do it. Well, that's just my own opinion though, you can follow the process if it's important you implement it on your blog but I still maintain it ain't cool. :)

To disable right click on your blog:

1. Login to your blogger account

2. Click on Design > Edit HTML

3. Search for <head>

4. Paste this code just below it:

<script language='Javascript'>
function mycontextmenu() {
alert('Sorry, right-click has been disabled');
return false;
}
document.oncontextmenu = mycontextmenu;
</script>

It should look just like this:

5. Save your template and visit your blog. You'll only find out that right click is totally disable.

6. This is optional but you can change the characters in red to your personal text. This is the message that'll be displayed instead of context menu.

Like I said earlier, disabling right-click is a lame method to protect your content and I won't recommend it to anyone. Have you given it a thought that regular visitors won't even be able to right click on a link and open it in a new tab? It's one of the ways to frustrate your regular visitors and drive them off.

How To Bypass Disabled Right-Click:

In case you visit a site with right-click disabled, there's a way to bypass it. Just copy the javascript below and paste it into the address bar, hit ENTER and it totally disables whatever right click script used:

javascript:void(document.onmousedown=null);void(document.onclick=null);void(document.oncontextmenu=null)

15 Dynamic Resources You People Gain Highest Traffic

These are free SEO tools that I’ve used to get page one rankings on Google. Best of all, they’re all free. The ratings on the free SEO tools below were determined by me by the following factors: how well the product works, how easy it is to use and how well it compares to the other tools.

Analysis tools:

1. Traffic Travis

How it rates: 10/10

This is a great tool to use to compare websites against each other automatically. It also pulls anchor text and page rank of back links easily. In addition, if you want automatic ranking reports this is your tool. It’s free but can be used for a limited number of campaigns unless you upgrade. This is the best analysis tool that I have ever used. It’s easy and fun to use.

2. Backlinkwatch.com

How it rates: 9/10

This is a great website where you can type in a URL of a web page and see all the back links to that web page and the anchor text of those back links. It also shows the outbound links on that web page. This is a great way to evaluate how much off site optimization a site has done to achieve a particular ranking on Google.

3. XENU Link Sleuth

How it rates: 9/10

I use this tool to check if a site has broken links. You can also see if there are redirect detections, endless loops and much more. It’s like you have a detective at the click of a button.

4. SEO Tool Bar (SEO Book FireFox Extension)

How it rates: 8/10

I use this tool to quickly see the page rank of web pages and quickly see where the back links to a page are coming from.

5. SEO Quake (FireFox Extension)

How it rates: 8/10

SEO Quake does an excellent job of creating a quick SEO Report for any client. Combine that with CutePDF Writer and you can print a comprehensive SEO Report with two clicks of the mouse for free.

6. MajesticSEO.com and OpenSiteExplorer.org

How it rates: 7/10

These are nice back link analysis tools, but you have to register and I feel that they aren’t as good as Traffic Travis. For these to be really effective you need to buy the paid subscriptions.

7. LinkDiagnosis.com

How it rates: 6/10

This is a great way to do a back link analysis on a web page. I prefer backlinkwatch.com, but I’ve used this tool too to see if backlinkwatch.com missed anything.
Rank Checkers:

8. CuteRank.net

How it rates: 10/10

This is a little nicer than Rank Checker and automatically checks keyword rankings – only catch – it’s free for only one site.

9. RankChecker (SEO Book FireFox Extension)

How it rates: 9/10

I use this tool to check the rankings of a domain. You can check multiple keywords at the same time and if you keep the keywords in a column of an excel sheet then it’ll be easy to copy and paste the keywords from excel into this tool.
Link Building Tools:

10. AutomaticBackLinks.com

How it rates: 10/10

If you have a site with a page rank of 1 or higher, then AutomaticBackLinks.com can get you back links for free on PR 1 or higher web pages. You pretty much just insert a code that they give you at the bottom of your page and then the site puts links related to your site there. You get credits for each link you put on your page and you can use those credits to put back links on websites in their network.
Common Tools:

11. Google External Keyword Tool

How it rates: 10/10

This is the basic tool to use to generate key words, find search volume for keywords and see how popular the keyword is for Google Adwords.

12. Google Analytics

How it rates: 9/10

It’s pretty common place to use this tool to track your traffic and where it’s coming from, but it’s also nice to use the goals feature and track conversion stats. Why didn’t I give this a 10/10? Because I feel that Google Analytics should buy www.kissmetrics.com up and integrate those features into Google Analytics. Then Google Analytics would be a 10/10.

13. Google Webmaster Tools

How it rates: 10/10

I use this to submit my XML sitemap to and get my site indexed on Google properly. You can also submit your robots.txt file and check broken links.

Random Tools:

14. Unbounce

How it rates: 10/10

This isn’t an SEO Tool, but before I spend a ton of time doing SEO for a website, I like to test the waters with PPC, because getting on page one of Google doesn’t exactly pay off unless the people finding you convert into users/customers.

15. Jing

How it rates: 11/10

I love this tool. It’s awesomeness in a can. Ok this isn’t an SEO tool either, but it lets you take a screen shot and video of whatever’s going on your screen easily. After taking a screen shot, you can easily edit it, and after taking a video, you can easily edit it in Camtasia (another free to try program). You can also upload the screen shot/video online with one click and it puts the URL of the screen shot/video on your clip board. This way you can copy and paste it easily on Skype. This tool is really useful when showing outsourcers how to do a specific link building task.

Use a free tool that I didn’t list? Comment below and let us know.
